Product Description
The Simpson BA4.12/9.5 Top-Flange Joist Hanger is a cost-effective connector built for double 2 in. x 9-1/2 in. engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing. Designed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, this top-flange hanger delivers structural reliability and design flexibility through min./max. nailing options - making it a practical choice for a wide range of residential and commercial framing applications. The hanger is fabricated from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish for durable, long-lasting performance in demanding conditions.
Key Features
- Two-level embossment at the top flange - provides increased stiffness so the hanger maintains its shape and load-carrying integrity under structural stress.
- Full-height joist flange captures the top chord of the joist - prevents joist rotation and eliminates the need for web stiffeners, saving installation time and reducing material costs.
- Min./max. nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving engineers and builders the flexibility to dial in the right capacity for each application.
- Available for sloped and/or skewed member configurations - accommodates non-standard framing angles up to 45 deg., making this hanger suitable for complex roof and floor framing layouts.
- 12-gauge steel construction - delivers the structural thickness needed to handle medium-to-higher load ranges in engineered wood product framing.
- G90 zinc galvanized finish - provides extra corrosion resistance, extending service life in moisture-prone or treated-lumber environments.
Why This Product
- Engineered for higher loads with EWP - unlike hangers sized only for solid sawn lumber, the BA4.12/9.5 is specifically designed to carry higher loads when paired with engineered wood products, making it well matched to modern floor and roof framing systems.
- Eliminates web stiffeners by design - the full-height joist flange captures the top chord and controls rotation without additional hardware, reducing both labor steps and material costs on the job site.
- Built-in load versatility through variable nailing - the same hanger handles a range of structural demands simply by adjusting the nailing pattern, reducing the need to stock multiple connector sizes for different load conditions.
- Corrosion-resistant finish for long-term durability - the G90 galvanized coating adds a layer of protection that helps this connector hold up in environments where moisture exposure is a concern, supporting code-compliant installations over the life of the structure.

Installation
Install with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. Minimum nailing targets moderate load demands; maximum nailing allows higher loads. The full-height joist flange captures the top chord of the joist, eliminating the need for web stiffeners.
Options
- Other widths are available; specify W dimension (the minimum W dimension is 1 9/16").
- For modified hangers, fastener quantity listed in tables may need to increase depending on joist size, skew and slope. All modified hangers are 12 ga.
- Hangers may be modified for slopes and/or skews up to 45 deg.. The top flanges may be sloped as much as 35 deg. and may be open or closed up to 30 deg.. See Modifications and Associated Load Reductions under Specifications
