Product Description
The Simpson Strong-Tie ECCO5 1/4HDG End Column Cap is engineered to deliver robust column-to-beam connections in end-of-beam applications positioned on top of steel members. Constructed from heavy-duty 3-gauge steel with a Hot Dip Galvanized finish, this column cap features a legless design that enables field-welded attachment to steel columns and beams. The extended seat provides additional bearing surface area beyond one side of the column, effectively distributing beam loads and delivering reliable structural support at critical connection points. Manufactured in the United States, the ECCO5 1/4HDG is built to meet demanding structural requirements in both new construction and retrofit applications.

Approved Applications
- End-of-beam column-to-beam connections on top of steel members
- Field-welded connections to steel columns and beams
- Structural applications requiring increased uplift load resistance for seismic or high-wind conditions
- Connections to pipe columns or other steel column configurations via field welding

Frequently Asked Questions
- What type of application is the ECCO5 1/4HDG designed for?
- The ECCO5 1/4HDG is designed specifically for end-of-beam applications where the column cap sits on top of steel members. Its legless design allows field-welded attachment to steel columns and beams, making it well suited for end-of-beam connection points in both new construction and retrofit applications.
- Why does this column cap have a legless design?
- The legless design enables field-welded attachment directly to steel columns and beams, providing versatility in end-of-beam applications where traditional leg-style connectors would not be appropriate or practical.
- What material and finish does the ECCO5 1/4HDG use, and why does it matter?
- The ECCO5 1/4HDG is constructed from 3-gauge steel with a Hot Dip Galvanized finish. The heavy-gauge steel delivers exceptional strength and durability, while the Hot Dip Galvanized finish provides superior corrosion resistance for long-term performance in demanding environments.
- How does the extended seat on the ECCO5 1/4HDG benefit structural connections?
- The extended seat provides additional bearing surface area beyond one side of the column, which effectively distributes beam loads across a wider area and delivers reliable structural support at critical connection points. Additionally, uplift loads are increased to enhance structural resilience against earthquake or wind loading.
