Product Description

The Simpson Double 2x14 Concealed Flange Joist Hanger Skewed Left HSULC214-2 is a heavy-duty structural connector engineered to carry double 2x14 lumber in left-skewed wood framing applications. Built for angled joist-to-header connections where a square connection simply will not work, this hanger accepts joists cut at or near 45 deg. - accommodating a range from 40 deg. to 50 deg. - and its concealed header flanges keep visible framing lines clean and professional in exposed conditions. From floor systems and roof framing to deck construction and end-of-wall intersections, this connector delivers a structurally sound, precision-fit solution for demanding residential and commercial projects.

Key Features

  • 45 deg. Skewed Left Geometry - Purpose-built for left-handed angled framing connections, eliminating field fabrication and guesswork when joists meet headers at an angle rather than square.
  • Concealed Header Flanges - Flanges tuck behind the header so fastener heads and connector edges stay hidden, giving exposed framing a finished, architectural appearance without additional trim work.
  • Double 2x14 Joist Capacity - Sized specifically for doubled 2x14 members, making it the right fit for heavier floor, roof, and deck framing loads where a single-member hanger would be undersized.
  • 14-Gauge Steel Construction - Heavy-gauge steel provides the structural rigidity needed to handle demanding load conditions in both residential and commercial wood-framed assemblies.
  • Zinc Galvanized G90 Coating - A G90 galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance, extending the service life of the connector in applications where moisture exposure is a factor.
  • Flexible Fastener Compatibility - Accepts either #9 x 2-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD Connector Screws or standard nails, giving installers the option to use the fastener type best suited to the job site.
  • Square or Bevel Cut Joist End - The hanger works with both square-cut and bevel-cut joist ends, reducing layout complexity and saving time during installation.

Why This Product

  • Engineered for the Angle, Not Adapted to It - Rather than bending or shimming a standard hanger to fit a skewed connection, this connector is purpose-designed for 45 deg. left-skewed framing, ensuring load transfer is handled the way the engineer intended.
  • Cleaner Results in Visible Framing - The concealed flange design makes this hanger a smart choice for exposed beams and open-ceiling construction where connector hardware would otherwise be an eyesore.
  • Versatile Across Multiple Framing Systems - Approved for use in floor, roof, and deck framing as well as end-of-wall installations, this single connector covers a wide range of project types without requiring multiple SKUs.
  • American-Made Simpson Quality - Produced by Simpson, a trusted name in structural connectors, and made in the United States, this hanger is built to consistent manufacturing standards that contractors and inspectors recognize and rely on.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size and type of joist does the HSULC214-2 support?
The HSULC214-2 is designed to support double 2x14 lumber members. It features a heavy U-shaped construction built for demanding structural load requirements in wood framing applications.
What skew angle does this joist hanger accommodate?
This hanger is engineered for a 45 deg. left-skewed connection and will accommodate joists skewed anywhere from 40 deg. to 50 deg.. It cannot be modified, so it should only be used within that skew range. The joist end may be square cut or bevel cut.
What are the concealed flanges and why do they matter?
The concealed header flanges are designed to hide behind the header, delivering cleaner and more finished visible lines in exposed framing conditions. This makes the HSULC214-2 a preferred choice when the framing will remain visible in the finished space.
Do web stiffeners need to be installed alongside this hanger?
No, web stiffeners are not required for standard installation. The hanger encapsulates the top flange of the joist, eliminating the need for web stiffeners in typical applications. Additionally, the obround nail holes on the acute side allow nails to be installed parallel to the joist for easier fastening.
