Product Description

The Simpson Heli-Tie Helical Wall Tie is a Type 304 stainless steel helical tie engineered to anchor building facades to structural members or to stabilize brick walls. The helical design allows the tie to be driven quickly and easily into a predrilled pilot hole - or embedded into mortar joints during new construction - creating a reliable mechanical connection between a masonry facade and its backup material. As it is driven, the fins of the tie undercut the surrounding masonry to deliver an expansion-free anchorage that resists both tension and compression loads. Compatible with concrete, masonry, wood stud, and steel stud backup materials, this wall tie is a versatile solution for remedial masonry repair, facade tie-back, and new construction applications alike.

Key Features

  • Fast installation with a rotohammer in hammer mode - the tie drives and countersinks quickly, reducing labor time compared to competing wall tie products
  • Countersinks up to 1/2 in. below the surface - the tie location can be patched after installation, preserving the appearance of the building with a clean, inconspicuous repair
  • Larger core diameter for higher torsional capacity - minimizes deflection caused by "uncoiling" under load, delivering a more stable and dependable anchorage
  • Fractionally sized anchor requiring a 7/32 in. or 1/4 in. drill bit - no metric drill bits needed, simplifying tool requirements on the job site
  • Type 304 stainless steel construction - provides long-term corrosion resistance in exterior masonry and facade applications where moisture exposure is a concern
  • Expansion-free anchorage mechanism - the fins undercut the masonry as the tie is driven, locking the anchor in place without exerting outward pressure that could damage the surrounding substrate
  • Compatible with concrete, masonry, wood studs, and steel studs - a single tie solution covers a wide range of backup materials and structural configurations

Why This Product

  • Designed for both repair and new construction - the Heli-Tie installs into a predrilled pilot hole for remedial facade tie-back work or embeds directly into mortar joints during new masonry construction, making it a practical choice across multiple project types
  • Inconspicuous installation protects building aesthetics - because the tie countersinks up to 1/2 in. below the surface and the entry point can be patched, the repair remains hidden without altering the finished appearance of the facade
  • Expansion-free anchorage reduces stress on existing masonry - unlike wedge-type anchors that expand outward, the helical fin design undercuts the substrate mechanically, making it well suited for stabilizing aged or potentially fragile brick walls
  • Simplified tool and drill bit requirements - the fractionally sized anchor works with standard imperial drill bits and installs using the HELITOOL37A setting tool with an SDS-plus shank rotohammer, keeping the installation process straightforward without specialized metric tooling

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Heli-Tie helical wall tie installed?
The Heli-Tie wall tie is installed into a predrilled pilot hole using a proprietary setting tool - the HELITOOL37A - with an SDS-plus shank rotohammer. With the rotohammer in hammer mode, the tie drives and countersinks quickly and easily into the substrate. For new construction, the tie can also be embedded directly into mortar joints.
What drill bit size is required to install the HELI37900A?
A 7/32 in. or 1/4 in. drill bit is required to create the pilot hole for the HELI37900A Heli-Tie. Because this is a fractionally sized anchor, no metric drill bits are needed.
What makes the Heli-Tie anchorage expansion-free?
As the Heli-Tie is driven into the predrilled hole, the fins of the tie undercut the surrounding masonry. This undercutting action creates a mechanical connection that provides an expansion-free anchorage capable of withstanding both tension and compression loads without stressing the surrounding masonry material.
Will the Heli-Tie be visible after installation?
No. After installation, the tie is countersunk up to 1/2 in. below the surface of the masonry. This allows the tie location to be patched, providing an inconspicuous repair that preserves the appearance of the building.
