Product Description
The Simpson Heli-Tie 3/8 in. x 20 in. Helical Wall Tie is a Type 304 stainless steel helical tie engineered to anchor building facades to structural members and to stabilize brick walls. The helical design allows the tie to be driven quickly and easily into a predrilled pilot hole - or embedded into mortar joints during new construction - to deliver a mechanical connection between a masonry facade and its backup material. As the tie is driven, its fins undercut the masonry to provide an expansion-free anchorage that withstands both tension and compression loads. Suitable for use in concrete, masonry, wood studs, and steel studs, the Heli-Tie is installed using a proprietary setting tool paired with an SDS-plus shank rotohammer, which simultaneously drives and countersinks the tie for a clean, patchable finish.
Key Features
- Faster installation in hammer mode - the rotohammer drives the tie more quickly than competitive products, reducing labor time on facade anchoring and wall stabilization projects.
- Countersinks up to 1/2 in. below the surface - the tie location can be patched after installation, delivering an inconspicuous repair that preserves the finished appearance of the building.
- Larger core diameter - provides higher torsional capacity, resulting in less deflection due to "uncoiling" under load for a more reliable long-term connection.
- Fractionally sized at 3/8 in. diameter - works with standard 7/32 in. or 1/4 in. drill bits, so no metric drill bits are required on the job site.
- Type 304 stainless steel construction - delivers corrosion resistance that protects the integrity of the wall tie connection over the life of the structure.
- Compatible with multiple backup materials - performs in concrete and masonry as well as wood and steel stud assemblies, making it suitable for a wide range of facade and masonry repair applications.
- Applicable to both new construction and retrofit work - can be embedded into fresh mortar joints during new builds or driven into predrilled holes for repair and remediation projects.
Why This Product
- Expansion-free mechanical anchorage - the fin-undercutting helical drive mechanism creates a secure connection without expansion pressure, reducing the risk of stress cracking in the surrounding masonry during facade anchoring or brick wall stabilization.
- Visible repair? Not after installation. - because the tie countersinks below the surface and the hole can be patched, this helical wall tie is a go-to choice for restoration and repair contractors who need a structurally sound fix that does not compromise building aesthetics.
- Engineered for real-world versatility - a single tie size handles concrete, masonry, wood studs, and steel stud backup materials, simplifying procurement and reducing the number of fastener SKUs needed across mixed-substrate facade and masonry wall projects.
- No special tooling or metric hardware required - compatibility with standard fractional drill bits and a dedicated SDS-plus rotohammer installation tool means crews can get to work without sourcing specialty equipment or metric components.
