Product Description

The Simpson DGHT Top-Flange Fire Wall Hanger is a patent-pending, load-tested connector engineered for 7 in. x 20 in. engineered wood members in multifamily, multilevel Type III residential construction. This top-flange hanger carries a two-hour fire-resistant rating tested to ASTM E814 and certified under Intertek Design No. SST/WPCF 120-01, making it fire rated for use on both sides of the wall. Its innovative design accommodates two layers of 5/8-in. gypsum board slipped into place after framing is complete, and it is the first fire wall hanger built to install with a power nailer - helping framing crews stay on schedule before drywall goes up.

Key Features

  • Power nailer compatible installation - the first fire wall hanger designed for power-driven nails, reducing installation time and keeping framing projects on schedule before drywall is hung
  • Loads tested and code listed for 1 1/2 in. and 2 1/2 in. power-driven or hand-installed nails - gives contractors flexibility to use the fastening method that fits their workflow without sacrificing code compliance
  • Two-hour fire rating applies to 2x4 or thicker walls - meets fire wall assembly requirements for multifamily and multilevel residential construction with a certified, tested rating
  • Innovative top-flange design for back-to-back installation on 2x6 (min.) walls - simplifies fire wall framing by allowing hangers to be positioned on both sides of the wall before drywall is installed
  • Space for two layers of 5/8-in. drywall after framing - lets crews complete framing first, then slide gypsum board into place without reworking or adjusting the hanger
  • Made from 10-gauge steel with Zinc Galvanized, G90 coating - provides the structural strength and corrosion resistance required for demanding residential fire wall applications
  • Two-hour Fire-Resistant rating Intertek Design No. SST/WPCF 120-01 - independently certified rating supports code submissions and inspections without additional documentation hurdles

Why This Product

  • Engineered specifically for fire wall framing in multifamily construction - unlike general-purpose joist hangers, this connector is load-tested and code listed for fire-rated wall assemblies in Type III multilevel residential buildings, where getting the right certified product matters for inspections and occupancy approvals
  • Power nailer compatibility saves real time on the job site - being the first fire wall hanger designed to work with a power nailer means framing crews can install it the same way they hang standard joists, cutting labor time before drywall operations begin
  • Top-flange design keeps the construction sequence flexible - framing can be fully completed and inspected before drywall is slid into the two-layer 5/8-in. gypsum board space, reducing coordination headaches between trades
  • Dual-side fire rating backed by independent certification - tested to ASTM E814 and certified under Intertek Design No. SST/WPCF 120-01 for use on both sides of the wall, giving builders and inspectors confidence that the assembly meets two-hour fire-resistant requirements without guesswork

Frequently Asked Questions

What fire rating does the DGHT7.12/20 carry, and how was it tested?

The DGHT7.12/20 carries a two-hour fire-resistant rating. It has been tested according to ASTM E814 and is fire rated for use on both sides of the wall. The rating is certified under Intertek Design No. SST/WPCF 120-01 and applies to 2x4 or thicker wall assemblies.

Can this hanger be installed with a power nailer?

Yes. The DGHT is the first fire wall hanger designed to install with a power nailer. It is loads tested and code listed for both 1-1/2 in. and 2-1/2 in. power-driven nails, as well as hand-installed nails, giving crews flexibility on the job site.

How does the top-flange design accommodate drywall installation?

The top-flange design allows the hanger to be installed during framing, after which two layers of 5/8-in. gypsum board (drywall) can be slipped into the space provided once framing is complete. This sequence supports efficient workflow on fire wall assemblies without requiring drywall to be in place before hanging.

What are the minimum wall requirements for back-to-back installation?

The innovative top-flange design supports back-to-back installation on walls that are 2x6 or thicker (minimum). The two-hour fire rating applies to 2x4 or thicker walls in standard single-hanger configurations.
