Product Description
The Simpson 3-1/4" Beam Column Cap Hot Dip Galvanized CCO3 1/4HDG by Simpson is a heavy-duty column cap engineered to create strong, reliable connections between beams and steel columns. Its legless design is built specifically for field-welded attachment to steel columns and posts, while the extended seat provides additional bearing surface area beyond each side of the column to effectively distribute beam loads and reinforce the connection. Built for demanding structural applications where wind and seismic performance matter, this beam cap delivers the dependable load transfer and code-compliant fastening geometry that engineers and contractors rely on.
Key Features
- Legless design for field-welded attachment - allows direct welding to steel columns and posts on-site, giving installers flexibility for custom column configurations without requiring pre-fabricated legs
- Extended seat with additional bearing surface area beyond each side of the column - distributes beam loads more broadly across the connection, reducing stress concentration and improving overall structural integrity
- Uplift loads increased for earthquake or wind loading - provides enhanced resistance where lateral and uplift forces are a design concern, making this cap suitable for high-demand seismic and wind zones
- Bolt spacing meets NDS code requirements - ensures the connection geometry is compliant with recognized structural standards, reducing engineering review time and simplifying inspection
- Diamond holes for temporary fastening - allow the cap to be held in position during installation before final fasteners are set, improving accuracy and ease of assembly
- Hot-dip galvanized finish - delivers robust corrosion resistance suited for exposed, exterior, or high-moisture environments where long-term durability is required
- 7-gauge steel construction - provides substantial material thickness to handle heavy beam and column loads in demanding structural framing applications
Why This Product
- Purpose-built for steel column connections - the legless, field-weld design is specifically suited for attachment to steel columns and posts, as well as pipe columns, making it a practical choice for steel-framed structures where conventional column caps with legs would not apply
- Enhanced performance where it counts most - with uplift loads increased for earthquake or wind loading, this column cap is a dependable solution for projects in regions with strict lateral load requirements
- Code-compliant out of the box - bolt spacing that meets NDS code requirements means the hardware is ready to satisfy structural and inspection standards without additional modification
- American-made quality from a trusted structural brand - produced by Simpson, a recognized name in structural connectors, this beam column cap is manufactured in the United States and designed to perform in real-world construction conditions

Frequently Asked Questions
- What type of columns is the CCO3 1/4HDG designed to attach to?
- The CCO3 1/4HDG is designed for field-welded attachment to steel columns and posts. Its legless design makes it specifically suited for welded connections, and it may also be ordered for field welding to pipe or other columns, with welding specified by the designer.
- Why does the seat of the CCO column cap extend beyond the sides of the column?
- The extended seat is engineered to provide additional bearing surface area that goes beyond each side of the column. This broader footprint helps distribute the load transferred from the beam more effectively, improving the overall strength and stability of the connection.
- Is the CCO3 1/4HDG suitable for high-wind or seismic applications?
- Yes. The CCO3 1/4HDG features increased uplift load capacity specifically to address the demands of earthquake and wind loading conditions, making it appropriate for use in regions with elevated seismic or wind design requirements.
- What finish does the CCO3 1/4HDG have, and why does it matter?
- The CCO3 1/4HDG features a Hot-Dip Galvanized finish, which provides a thick, durable zinc coating that significantly enhances resistance to corrosion. This makes it well-suited for exposed or moisture-prone environments where long-term performance is critical.
