Product Description

The Simpson BA312 is a top-flange joist hanger built for both engineered wood product framing and solid sawn lumber applications, delivering medium load capacity with solid sawn lumber and higher load capacity with engineered wood products. Part of the Simpson BA hanger series, this 3x12 beam connector is stamped from 12-gauge steel and finished with a G90 zinc galvanized coating, making it a durable and cost-effective solution for structural framing connections where joist rotation prevention and load reliability are priorities. Support for both minimum positive-angle nailing (PAN) for moderate load conditions and maximum nailing for higher load demands gives builders a single, adaptable hanger that meets a wide range of structural requirements.

Key Features

  • Cost-effective one-piece design - eliminates the higher cost of welded hangers while maintaining structural integrity in demanding framing applications
  • Full-height joist flange - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and removes the need for web stiffeners, saving installation time and materials
  • Positive-angle nailing (PAN) support - enables minimum nailing for moderate load conditions and maximum nailing for higher load demands, giving installers flexibility within a single connector
  • 12-gauge steel construction - provides the structural thickness required for medium-to-higher load joist and beam connections in engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing
  • G90 zinc galvanized coating - delivers corrosion resistance suited for exposed or moisture-prone framing environments
  • Available modified for sloped and/or skewed members - accommodates non-standard framing angles, supporting slopes and skews up to 45 deg. for versatile project applications

Why This Product

  • One hanger, two load scenarios - the BA312 supports both moderate and higher load conditions through nailing configuration adjustments, reducing the need to stock multiple hanger types for different framing situations
  • Eliminates web stiffeners by design - the full-height joist flange controls joist rotation without additional hardware, streamlining installation and cutting material costs on engineered wood and solid sawn lumber jobs
  • Stronger value than welded alternatives - the one-piece stamped construction delivers equivalent structural function to welded hangers at a lower cost, making it a practical choice for budget-conscious structural framing work
  • Adaptable to non-standard framing conditions - modified configurations can handle slopes and skews up to 45 deg., including top flanges sloped as much as 35 deg., making this hanger a capable fit for complex roof and floor framing layouts

Frequently Asked Questions

What size lumber is the BA312 designed to support?
The BA312 is designed for a nominal 3x12 joist or beam member. It is suitable for use with both solid sawn lumber and engineered wood products (EWP), offering medium load capacity with solid sawn lumber and higher load capacity with engineered wood products.
What nails should be used to install the BA312?
The BA312 should be installed using 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger supports both minimum nailing via positive-angle nailing (PAN) for moderate load conditions and maximum nailing for higher load demands.
What material and finish is the BA312 made from?
The BA312 is constructed from 12-gauge steel with a Zinc Galvanized (G90) coating for corrosion resistance. Its one-piece design offers a cost-effective alternative to welded hangers without sacrificing structural integrity.
Can the BA312 be used for sloped or skewed framing applications?
The standard BA312 is designed for standard framing connections, but it is available for special order to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members. Contact your supplier to inquire about special-order configurations for non-standard framing angles.
