Product Description
The Simpson BA1.81/11.25 Top-Flange Joist Hanger is a cost-effective connector built for 1-3/4 in. x 11-1/4 in. engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing applications. Part of Simpson's BA series, this hanger is designed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, giving builders a single connector that adapts to a range of structural demands. Formed from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized coating, it provides the corrosion resistance and structural integrity that demanding framing projects require. Minimum and maximum nailing options add design versatility, making this top-flange hanger a practical choice for residential and commercial framing alike.
Key Features
- Two-level embossment at the top flange - provides increased stiffness at the connection point, improving overall structural performance without adding bulk.
- Full-height joist flange - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminate the need for web stiffeners, reducing both materials and installation time.
- Minimum and maximum nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving engineers and contractors flexibility on the same hanger model.
- Available to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members - supports complex framing conditions where standard square connections are not possible, with slopes up to 35 deg. and skews up to 45 deg.
- 12-gauge steel construction - delivers the thickness and rigidity needed for medium-to-higher load joist connections in engineered wood framing.
- G90 zinc galvanized coating - provides extra corrosion resistance, making this hanger suitable for use in environments where moisture exposure is a concern.
Why This Product
- One hanger, a wide load range - because nailing quantity directly controls load capacity, a single BA1.81/11.25 can address both moderate and higher structural demands, reducing the need to source multiple connector types for a job.
- No web stiffeners required - the full-height joist flange captures the top chord and prevents rotation on its own, streamlining installation and cutting down on additional hardware and labor.
- Built for engineered wood framing - explicitly rated for higher loads when used with engineered wood products, this hanger is well-suited for modern floor systems that rely on LVL, I-joists, and similar materials sized at 1-3/4 in. x 11-1/4 in.
- Corrosion-resistant and domestically produced - the G90 zinc galvanized finish offers extra protection against rust and deterioration, supporting long-term connection integrity in the framing assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What size joist is the BA1.81/11.25 designed to fit?
- This hanger is specifically sized for 1-3/4 in. x 11-1/4 in. engineered wood or solid sawn lumber joists. It is a top-flange hanger, meaning it installs over the top chord of the joist, and the full-height joist flange captures the top chord to prevent rotation without requiring web stiffeners.
- What nails should be used to install this hanger?
- Install this hanger using 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger offers minimum and maximum nailing options, allowing minimum nailing to target moderate load demands and maximum nailing to achieve higher load capacities.
- What material and coating is used on this hanger, and is it suitable for outdoor or treated lumber applications?
- The BA1.81/11.25 is made from 12-gauge steel and features a G90 zinc galvanized coating, which provides extra corrosion resistance. This finish helps make the hanger suitable for environments where additional protection against corrosion is needed.
- Can this hanger be used for sloped or skewed framing conditions?
- The standard BA1.81/11.25 is designed for square installations, but it is available for special order to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members. Contact your supplier for information on ordering a custom configuration for non-standard framing angles.
