Product Description

The Simpson Heli-Tie Helical Wall Tie is a Type 304 stainless steel helical tie engineered to anchor building facades to structural members or to stabilize brick walls. The helical design allows the tie to be driven quickly and easily into a predrilled pilot hole - or embedded directly into mortar joints in new construction - to create a reliable mechanical connection between a masonry facade and its backup material. As the tie is driven, its fins undercut the masonry to deliver an expansion-free anchorage that withstands both tension and compression loads. Compatible with concrete, masonry, wood stud, and steel stud backup systems, this helical wall tie is a versatile solution for both new construction and retrofit masonry repair applications.

Key Features

  • Faster installation in hammer mode - the rotohammer drives the tie quickly and efficiently, reducing labor time compared to alternative masonry anchoring methods
  • Countersinks up to 1/2 in. below the surface - allows the tie location to be patched after installation, providing an inconspicuous repair that preserves the finished appearance of the building
  • Larger core diameter with higher torsional capacity - resists deflection caused by "uncoiling" under load, maintaining a more secure and stable mechanical connection over time
  • Fractionally sized anchor - works with standard 7/32 in. or 1/4 in. drill bits, so no metric drill bits are required on the job site
  • Type 304 stainless steel construction - provides long-term corrosion resistance, making this tie well-suited for exterior facade and masonry wall applications where moisture exposure is a concern
  • Expansion-free anchorage - the undercutting fin design eliminates the lateral stress associated with expansion anchors, protecting surrounding masonry from cracking or damage during and after installation
  • Broad substrate compatibility - performs in concrete and masonry as well as wood and steel stud backup systems, giving contractors a single tie solution across multiple wall assembly types

Why This Product

  • Inconspicuous, patch-ready installation - because the tie countersinks below the surface, repair and retrofit projects can be completed without leaving visible hardware on the face of the wall, preserving the building's existing aesthetic
  • Engineered for structural reliability under real load conditions - the larger core diameter is specifically designed to minimize deflection from "uncoiling" under tension and compression, delivering a more mechanically stable connection than ties with smaller core profiles
  • No special tooling or metric bits required - the fractionally sized design works with common drill bit sizes already on most job sites, and installation is completed with the HELITOOL37A setting tool paired with a standard SDS-plus shank rotohammer
  • Suitable for both new construction and masonry repair - the tie can be embedded into fresh mortar joints during new construction or driven into predrilled holes for retrofit applications, making it a practical choice for a wide range of masonry anchoring and wall stabilization projects

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Heli-Tie helical wall tie installed?
The Heli-Tie wall tie is installed into a predrilled pilot hole using a proprietary setting tool with an SDS-plus shank rotohammer. With the rotohammer in hammer mode, the tool drives and countersinks the tie quickly and easily. The required installation tool is the HELITOOL37A Heli-Tie fastener installation tool.
What drill bit size is required to install the HELI371600A?
Installation requires a predrilled pilot hole using either a 7/32 in. or 1/4 in. drill bit. Because the anchor is fractionally sized, no metric drill bits are needed.
How far below the surface is the tie countersunk after installation?
After installation, the tie is countersunk up to 1/2 in. below the surface. This allows the tie location to be patched, providing an inconspicuous repair that preserves the appearance of the building.
What substrates and backup materials is the Heli-Tie compatible with?
The Heli-Tie wall tie performs in concrete and masonry as well as wood and steel studs, making it suitable for a wide range of façade anchoring and wall stabilization applications in both new construction and retrofit scenarios.
