Product Description

The Simpson TSP 16-Gauge Galvanized Stud-Plate Tie by Simpson is engineered to connect the top plate to either the wall stud or a 2x rafter in wood-frame construction. Installed on the wide face of the 2x stud, the placement keeps the connector clear of wall sheathing for a clean, unobstructed assembly. A top-flange design allows the tie to attach securely to both sill plates and top plates, while 16-gauge steel construction and a G90 zinc galvanized coating deliver lasting structural reliability in demanding framing applications.

Key Features

  • Embossment feature provides strength at the bend - reinforces the critical fold point of the connector, maintaining load capacity where stress is highest.
  • Optional diamond holes accommodate various uplift capacities with min./max. nailing configurations - gives framers the flexibility to meet a range of load requirements using the same connector.
  • Can be installed before or after placement of the wall - accommodates different jobsite sequencing so crews are never forced to work around a rigid installation order.
  • Installed on the wide face of the 2x stud - keeps the tie out of the sheathing plane, eliminating fit-up conflicts and speeding up wall assembly.
  • Made from 16-gauge steel with a G90 galvanized coating - provides a corrosion-resistant stud plate tie suited for both interior framing and moisture-exposed environments.

Why This Product

  • Versatile connection point for wall framing - the TSP handles stud-to-top-plate and stud-to-2x-rafter connections in a single connector, reducing the number of different ties a crew needs on site.
  • Sheathing-friendly placement - by sitting on the wide face of the stud rather than the edge, the tie integrates into the framing without creating a bump or gap under wall sheathing.
  • Built-in uplift capacity options - the diamond hole pattern lets installers dial in the right nailing configuration for the project's specific uplift demands, keeping the installation code-compliant and efficient.
  • G90 galvanized protection on a Simpson-engineered connector - the heavier zinc coating extends the service life of the stud-plate tie in conditions where bare or lightly coated steel would be prone to early corrosion.
