Product Description
The JET J-A5818 15" Variable Speed Floor Model Drill Press delivers industrial-grade precision for demanding drilling applications. Powered by a 1 HP, 230/460V, 3-phase motor, this floor-standing drill press features a continuously variable transmission paired with a scale-marked handwheel, allowing operators to dial in exact spindle speeds from 400-5,000 RPM - and even change speed mid-operation without stopping the machine. Built around a rigid 3" column and a large 2-1/4" quill, it is engineered for maximum accuracy and spindle stiffness across a wide range of materials and hole depths.
Key Features
- Handwheel speed adjustment spanning 400-5,000 RPM through a reduction gearing system, with a scale-marked dial for precise operator control
- Continuously variable transmission allows speed changes during operation without stopping the machine
- Tensioner pulley takes up or releases belt slack automatically as speed is adjusted
- 3" column diameter provides maximum head support and overall machine rigidity
- Large 2-1/4" quill delivers greater accuracy and reduced deflection under load
- Full bearing support on the quill ensures maximum spindle stiffness throughout the stroke
- 6" stroke accommodates deep hole drilling applications
- Drills to the center of a 15" circle, offering a 7-1/2" distance from the column to the spindle
- Drilling capacity of 5/8" in cast iron and 1/2" in mild steel
- Spacious base work table measuring 12-1/8 x 11-13/16 in. for workpiece support

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the spindle speed range on the JET J-A5818, and can the speed be changed while the machine is running?
- The J-A5818 offers a spindle speed range of 400-5,000 RPM. Thanks to its continuously variable transmission and tensioner pulley system, the speed can be changed during operation without stopping the machine, giving operators maximum flexibility for different materials and bit sizes.
- What drilling capacities does this drill press support?
- This drill press has a drilling capacity of 5/8" in cast iron and 1/2" in mild steel, making it well suited for a range of metalworking and fabrication tasks.
- How deep can the J-A5818 drill in a single pass?
- The drill press features a 6" stroke, which supports deep hole drilling applications in a single plunge without repositioning the workpiece.
- What power supply is required to run the JET J-A5818?
- The J-A5818 is powered by a 1 HP, 230/460V, 3-phase motor. Verify that your facility has a compatible 3-phase power supply before installation.

FREIGHT SHIPMENTS
It is important to assess the product being shipped against your location and material-handling capabilities.
Please be aware that your location needs to be prepared to properly handle and sign for freight shipments. You need to have access to a dock location, a forklift or the ability to unload the product from the freight carrier's trailer.
If your location does not have a traditional loading dock or forklift to unload your LTL freight out of the trailer, a Lift gate service will be required. There will be an additional charge for the service. It varies by carrier and even by market with different carriers. It often depends on the supply and demand of lift gate equipped trucks in your area.
Some machines require Flatbed shipping. There will be an additional charge for this service. Flatbed shipping is for the transportation of cargo that cannot be loaded or unloaded from a dock, or does not fit within the dimensions of standard truck trailers. A flatbed’s design allows for cranes and forklifts to load goods from all angles.
If a shipment is too heavy or the footprint (i.e., panel saws, metalworking lathes, mill/drills) is too large to ship via small parcel carrier (USPS, UPS or FedEx), it is shipped via a freight carrier. Freight shipments are considered tail gate deliveries, meaning that the driver is only responsible for moving the shipment to the rear of the trailer and will not assist with unloading.
For non-commercial deliveries, the freight carrier will contact you to schedule a delivery window and confirm if lift gate services are required. If lift gate service is requested, the driver is responsible for lowering the product to the ground during delivery. Freight shipments delivered to a residential location are considered curb side deliveries, meaning the driver will make the delivery in the street at the end of the customer’s driveway. Freight Carriers are not required to enter driveways to make residential deliveries due to liability and safety issues.
Although most deliveries go smoothly, sometimes there are exceptions beyond our control. Machines weighing over 2,000 pounds, bulky and oversized machines with a large footprint may not be able to be delivered via a lift gate for risk of injury or damage to the machine. There are also inaccessible remote, residential or high density urban areas that freight carriers cannot safely access. If encountered, such shipments are available for dock delivery or will be required to be picked up from the carrier’s terminal.
