Product Description

The Simpson BA7.12/28 is a top-flange joist hanger built for reliable structural connections in both engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing. Designed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, this cost-effective hanger accommodates a double 3-1/2 in. x 28 in. member and offers minimum and maximum nailing options to meet a range of design load requirements. Made from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, it delivers durable corrosion resistance suited to demanding construction environments.

Key Features

  • Two-level embossment at the top flange - provides increased stiffness for a more rigid, dependable connection at the beam-to-header interface
  • Full-height joist flange - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminate the need for web stiffeners, reducing both labor and material costs
  • Min./max. nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving designers and builders flexibility without changing hardware
  • 12-gauge steel construction - delivers the structural integrity needed for medium-to-high load framing applications involving engineered wood or solid sawn lumber
  • G90 zinc galvanized coating - provides extra corrosion resistance to help maintain connection integrity over the life of the structure
  • Available for sloped and/or skewed member configurations - accommodates non-standard framing angles, making this hanger adaptable to complex structural layouts

Why This Product

  • Versatile load performance in one hanger - by supporting both moderate loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, this top-flange hanger covers a broad range of structural framing scenarios without requiring different hardware for each application
  • Built-in rotation control eliminates extra components - the full-height joist flange captures the joist top chord to prevent rotation, removing the need for web stiffeners and simplifying installation on engineered wood framing projects
  • Nailing flexibility supports efficient structural design - the ability to scale between minimum and maximum nailing schedules lets engineers and contractors fine-tune load capacity to match actual project requirements, reducing over-engineering and material waste
  • Engineered for real-world conditions - the G90 galvanized finish and heavy 12-gauge steel construction combine durability with structural strength, making this hanger a practical long-term choice for joist hanger and beam connection applications

Approved Applications

  • Engineered wood product (EWP) framing connections requiring higher load capacity
  • Solid sawn lumber framing connections requiring medium load capacity
  • Structural applications where top-flange hanger installation is required
  • Framing assemblies where prevention of joist rotation is critical
  • Applications where web stiffeners would otherwise be required

Installation

Install with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. Minimum nailing targets moderate load demands; maximum nailing allows higher loads. Refer to load tables for specific nailing schedules based on design requirements.

Options

  • Other widths are available; specify W dimension (the minimum W dimension is 1 9/16").
  • For modified hangers, fastener quantity listed in tables may need to increase depending on joist size, skew and slope. All modified hangers are 12 ga.
  • Hangers may be modified for slopes and/or skews up to 45 deg.. The top flanges may be sloped as much as 35 deg. and may be open or closed up to 30 deg.. See Modifications and Associated Load Reductions under Specifications
