Product Description

The Simpson BA5.12/26 is a top-flange joist hanger designed for double 2-1/2 in. x 26 in. engineered wood and solid sawn lumber members. Part of Simpson's BA series, this hanger delivers a cost-effective solution for medium- to high-load floor and roof framing by combining structural versatility with simplified installation. Built from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized coating, it supports a range of design load conditions through minimum and maximum nailing options - making it a practical choice for engineered wood product connections where performance and adaptability both matter.

Key Features

  • Two-level embossment at the top flange - provides increased stiffness, helping the hanger maintain structural integrity under higher load demands without adding bulk.
  • Full-height joist flange design - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminates the need for web stiffeners, reducing materials and simplifying the framing process.
  • Min./max. nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving engineers and contractors flexibility within a single hanger without swapping hardware.
  • 12-gauge steel construction - delivers the structural strength required for medium- to high-load engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing applications.
  • G90 zinc galvanized coating - provides extra corrosion resistance, helping the hanger hold up in environments where moisture exposure is a concern.
  • Available for sloped and/or skewed configurations - accommodates non-standard framing angles up to 45 deg., with top flanges that can be sloped as much as 35 deg. and opened or closed up to 30 deg., adding versatility for complex roof and floor framing layouts.

Why This Product

  • One hanger, a range of load conditions - the BA5.12/26's min./max. nailing design means the same hanger can serve moderate or higher load demands simply by adjusting fastener count, reducing the need to source multiple hanger models for different framing scenarios.
  • Engineered to eliminate extra steps - the full-height joist flange prevents joist rotation and removes the web stiffener requirement, cutting down on labor and additional components during installation.
  • Built for engineered wood performance - while effective with solid sawn lumber at medium loads, this hanger is specifically designed to carry higher loads with engineered wood products, making it well-suited for modern floor and roof framing systems that rely on LVL, I-joists, or similar EWP members.
  • Corrosion resistance backed by a proven coating standard - the G90 galvanized finish provides a durable layer of protection against corrosion, supporting long-term performance in demanding framing environments.

Approved Applications

  • Engineered wood product (EWP) joist-to-beam and joist-to-header connections
  • Solid sawn lumber framing applications requiring top-flange hanger support
  • Medium- to high-load floor and roof framing systems
  • Applications where web stiffener elimination is desired, thanks to the full-height joist flange design
  • Sloped and/or skewed framing configurations (available for special order)

Installation

Install with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. Minimum nailing accommodates moderate load conditions; maximum nailing is required for higher load applications. For modified hangers (sloped, skewed), fastener quantity listed in load tables may need to increase depending on joist size, skew, and slope.

Options

  • Other widths are available; specify W dimension (the minimum W dimension is 1 9/16").
  • For modified hangers, fastener quantity listed in tables may need to increase depending on joist size, skew and slope. All modified hangers are 12 ga.
  • Hangers may be modified for slopes and/or skews up to 45 deg.. The top flanges may be sloped as much as 35 deg. and may be open or closed up to 30 deg.. See Modifications and Associated Load Reductions under Specifications

Frequently Asked Questions

What size member is the BA5.12/26 designed to support?

The BA5.12/26 is designed specifically for a double 2-1/2 in. x 26 in. member. It is compatible with both engineered wood products and solid sawn lumber of that size, carrying medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products.

What nails should be used to install the BA5.12/26?

Install the BA5.12/26 with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger offers minimum and maximum nailing options, allowing minimum nailing to target moderate load demands and maximum nailing to achieve higher load capacity.

Does the BA5.12/26 require web stiffeners during installation?

No, web stiffeners are not required. The full-height joist flange captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation, eliminating the need for web stiffeners.

Can the BA5.12/26 be used for sloped or skewed applications?

The standard BA5.12/26 is not configured for sloped or skewed applications, but it is available for special order to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members. Contact your supplier to inquire about special-order configurations for your specific project requirements.
