Product Description

The Simpson BA4.75/20 is a top-flange joist hanger built for double 2-5/16 in. x 20 in. engineered wood members, delivering reliable structural support in demanding framing applications. Part of Simpson's BA series, this hanger is engineered to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, making it a cost-effective choice across a broad range of residential and commercial framing projects. Its design accommodates variable nailing schedules for added versatility, and 12-gauge steel construction with a G90 zinc galvanized finish ensures long-term durability in corrosion-prone environments.

Key Features

  • Two-level embossment at the top flange - provides increased stiffness, helping the hanger maintain structural integrity under load without additional reinforcement.
  • Full-height joist flange - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminate the need for web stiffeners, reducing labor and material costs on the job site.
  • Min./max. nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving engineers and builders design flexibility for varying load requirements.
  • Available to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members - supports complex framing configurations, reducing the need for custom fabrication in non-standard installations.
  • 12-gauge steel construction - delivers the structural strength needed for medium-to-high load applications in both engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing.
  • G90 zinc galvanized finish - provides extra corrosion resistance, making the hanger suitable for use in moisture-prone or treated-lumber environments.

Why This Product

  • Engineered for higher loads with EWP - unlike hangers limited to solid sawn lumber, the BA4.75/20 is specifically designed to carry higher loads when used with engineered wood products, making it well suited for modern framing systems that rely on LVL, PSL, or similar members.
  • Rotation control without extra hardware - the full-height joist flange captures the top chord of the joist and eliminates the need for web stiffeners, streamlining installation and reducing the total number of components required on the job.
  • Built-in design versatility - the min./max. nailing feature lets contractors and engineers optimize the connection for the actual load demand, avoiding over-building while still meeting code requirements when higher capacity is needed.
  • Durable finish for long-term performance - the G90 zinc galvanized coating provides extra corrosion resistance, helping the hanger perform reliably over the life of the structure in environments where moisture or treated lumber are factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size member is the BA4.75/20 designed to support?

The BA4.75/20 is designed specifically for a double 2-5/16 in. x 20 in. engineered wood member. It is a top-flange hanger sized to fit that exact joist configuration.

What nails should be used to install the BA4.75/20?

Install the BA4.75/20 using 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger offers minimum and maximum nailing options, allowing minimum nailing to target moderate load demands and maximum nailing to achieve higher loads.

Does the BA4.75/20 work with both engineered wood and solid sawn lumber?

Yes. The BA series is designed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, making the BA4.75/20 suitable for both types of framing applications.

What material and finish is used on the BA4.75/20, and does it resist corrosion?

The BA4.75/20 is made from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, which provides extra corrosion resistance for demanding construction environments.
