Product Description
The Simpson BA2.56/30 Top-Flange Joist Hanger is a cost-effective connector built for engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing applications where reliable mid-to-high load transfer and joist stability are essential. Sized to accept a 2-1/2 in. x 30 in. member, this hanger is purpose-built for deeper engineered wood products that demand precise fit and rotation control, while remaining equally capable in solid sawn lumber assemblies carrying moderate loads. Manufactured from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, it brings corrosion resistance and structural confidence to residential and commercial framing projects alike.
Key Features
- Two-level embossment at the top flange - increases flange stiffness, helping the hanger maintain its geometry under load and reducing deformation risk during installation and service.
- Full-height joist flange design - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminate the need for web stiffeners, simplifying installation and reducing material costs.
- Min./max. nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands while maximum nailing unlocks higher load capacity, giving engineers and contractors the design versatility to match the connector to actual project conditions.
- 12-gauge steel construction - provides the structural thickness needed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, without oversizing the connector.
- G90 zinc galvanized finish - delivers enhanced corrosion resistance suitable for demanding or moisture-exposed framing environments where long-term hardware integrity is critical.
- Available for sloped and/or skewed applications - accommodates non-square framing conditions, adding flexibility for complex roof and floor framing layouts without requiring a completely different hanger series.
Why This Product
- One hanger, two performance levels - the min./max. nailing schedule means a single Simpson BA2.56/30 can serve moderate or higher load requirements simply by adjusting fastener count, reducing the need to stock multiple hanger models for different load conditions.
- Engineered to eliminate rotation without extra hardware - the full-height joist flange captures the joist's top chord directly, removing the need for web stiffeners and cutting both installation time and supplemental material cost on engineered wood framing projects.
- Built-in stiffness where it counts - the two-level top flange embossment adds rigidity at the most stress-concentrated area of the connector, contributing to a more stable, dependable connection over the life of the structure.
- Corrosion-resistant from the start - the G90 galvanized coating provides a meaningful layer of protection against moisture and environmental exposure, making this hanger a dependable long-term choice in framing assemblies where hardware degradation would be difficult or costly to address after construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size joist or beam is the BA2.56/30 designed to fit?
The BA2.56/30 is designed to fit a 2-1/2 in. x 30 in. member. This makes it well suited for deeper engineered wood joists and beams where standard hangers may not provide adequate flange height.
What type of nails should be used to install this hanger?
Install the BA2.56/30 using 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger supports both minimum and maximum nailing configurations, allowing you to target moderate or higher load demands depending on your project requirements.
Is this hanger suitable for both engineered wood and solid sawn lumber?
Yes. The BA2.56/30 is designed for use with both engineered wood products and solid sawn lumber. It carries medium loads with solid sawn lumber and is capable of higher load capacities when used with engineered wood products.
Can the BA2.56/30 be used in sloped or skewed framing applications?
The standard BA2.56/30 is designed for square connections, but it is available for special order to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members. Contact your supplier to inquire about special-order configurations for angled framing applications.
