Product Description
The Simpson BA2.1/14 is a top-flange joist hanger built for 2 in. x 14 in. engineered wood and solid sawn lumber framing. Part of Simpson's cost-effective BA series, this hanger is designed to carry medium loads with solid sawn lumber and higher loads with engineered wood products, giving builders reliable, design-versatile performance across residential and light commercial floor and roof framing applications. Formed from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, it delivers lasting corrosion resistance and structural integrity where a deep 2 in. x 14 in. joist connection is required.
Key Features
- Two-level embossment at the top flange - increases flange stiffness for a more rigid, dependable connection that resists deformation under load.
- Full-height joist flange - captures the top chord of the joist to prevent rotation and eliminate the need for web stiffeners, reducing material costs and installation steps.
- Minimum and maximum nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, whereas maximum nailing allows higher loads, giving designers flexibility to meet a wider range of project requirements without switching hardware.
- Available for sloped and skewed member configurations - accommodates installations where members are not perfectly plumb or square, broadening the range of framing conditions this hanger can serve.
- 12-gauge steel construction - provides the structural thickness needed to handle medium-to-high load transfers in deep joist applications without adding unnecessary bulk.
- G90 zinc galvanized finish - delivers enhanced corrosion resistance suited for treated lumber environments and demanding job-site conditions.
Why This Product
- Cost-effective performance across two lumber types - the BA series design handles both engineered wood products at higher load capacities and solid sawn lumber at medium loads, so one hanger model covers a broader range of framing scenarios without upgrades.
- Web stiffener elimination saves time and material - the full-height joist flange captures the joist's top chord and prevents rotation on its own, removing an installation step that competing hangers often require with deep members like a 2 in. x 14 in. joist.
- Built-in nailing flexibility supports structural design - the ability to nail at minimum or maximum schedules means the same hanger can be specified for projects with different load table requirements, reducing the number of SKUs a framer needs on site.
- Made in the United States from 12-gauge galvanized steel - heavy-gauge, G90-coated construction provides the durability and corrosion protection that deep-joist framing connections demand in both interior and exposed applications.

Approved Applications
- Engineered wood product (EWP) framing applications requiring medium-to-high load transfer
- Solid sawn lumber framing applications requiring medium load capacity
- Residential and light commercial floor and roof framing with 2 in. x 14 in. joist members
- Installations where web stiffener elimination is desired
- Projects requiring design flexibility through minimum or maximum nailing configurations
Installation
Install with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. Minimum nailing targets moderate load demands; maximum nailing allows higher loads. Refer to load tables for nailing schedules specific to your application.
Note: Product dimensions and/or nail holes may differ from picture. Please see item description for specifications.
Options
- Other widths are available; specify W dimension (the minimum W dimension is 1 9/16").
- For modified hangers, fastener quantity listed in tables may need to increase depending on joist size, skew and slope. All modified hangers are 12 ga.
- Hangers may be modified for slopes and/or skews up to 45 deg.. The top flanges may be sloped as much as 35 deg. and may be open or closed up to 30 deg.. See Modifications and Associated Load Reductions under Specifications

Frequently Asked Questions
What size joist is the BA2.1/14 designed to fit?
The BA2.1/14 is designed for a 2 in. x 14 in. joist member. This is the actual joist size the hanger is built to accommodate, making it suitable for both engineered wood products and solid sawn lumber of that dimension.
What nails should be used to install the BA2.1/14?
Install the BA2.1/14 with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails in the header and 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. nails in the joist. The hanger offers minimum and maximum nailing options - minimum nailing targets moderate load demands, while maximum nailing allows higher load capacity.
What material and finish is the BA2.1/14 made from?
The BA2.1/14 is made from 12-gauge steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, which provides extra corrosion resistance for longer service life in demanding environments.
Can the BA2.1/14 be used for sloped or skewed framing applications?
The standard BA2.1/14 is designed for standard framing configurations, but it is available for special order to accommodate sloped and/or skewed members, providing flexibility for more complex framing situations.
