Product Description
CMT 838.992.11 Roundover Bit with Bearing by CMT is a large-radius edge profiling bit designed for router table use, delivering a clean, consistent 1" roundover profile on solid hardwood, softwood, plywood, MDF, and more. With a 2 1/2" cutting diameter, a 1 5/16" cutting height, and a 1/2" shank, this carbide-tipped router bit is built for demanding edge-shaping work in furniture making, cabinetry, and woodworking shops that require smooth, repeatable results across a variety of wood species and panel materials.
Key Features
- Hardmetal (HW) Carbide-Tipped Cutting Edges - industrial-grade carbide tips stay sharp through extended production runs, reducing downtime and replacement frequency when edge profiling hardwoods and composites.
- Ball-Bearing Guide - the integrated bearing pilots smoothly along the workpiece edge, maintaining a consistent cutting depth throughout the pass and reducing the risk of overcutting or uneven profiles.
- 2-Flute (2-Tooth) Design - dual cutting edges provide a balanced cut and a smooth surface finish, minimizing tearout on both solid wood and veneered panel materials.
- 1" Radius Profile - produces a full, sweeping roundover that softens sharp corners and creates elegant furniture-quality edges in a single pass.
- 1/2" Shank Diameter - the larger shank delivers greater stability and reduced vibration compared to smaller shank sizes, resulting in cleaner cuts and improved accuracy on a router table.
- Right-Hand Rotation - matches the standard rotation direction of router tables and handheld routers, ensuring proper cutting action and safe chip ejection.
- Fatigue-Proof Steel Body - the steel body is engineered to resist stress and flex during high-load cuts, extending the service life of the bit and supporting consistent performance over time.
- Black Bearing Washer Orientation - the bearing assembly is designed with a specific right-side-up orientation for the black bearing washer, helping prevent the bit from unscrewing during operation when correctly reassembled.
- 13 Radius Options Available in the CMT Roundover Series - part of a comprehensive lineup offering 13 different radii, giving woodworkers flexibility to match the right profile to any project without switching brands.
Why This Product
- Router table required for this size - bits with a 1" to 1 1/2" radius are specified for router table use only, making this bit the right choice for shops already equipped with a router table and looking for a full-radius edge profile on larger workpieces such as tabletops and wide furniture panels.
- Large-diameter coverage in a single pass - the 2 1/2" cutting diameter and 1 5/16" cutting height allow the full 1" roundover to be completed in one pass, saving time and reducing the need for multiple setup adjustments.
- Carbide construction for long-term value - hardmetal carbide-tipped edges hold their sharpness significantly longer than high-speed steel alternatives, meaning fewer sharpenings and more consistent edge quality across large production volumes.
- Versatile material compatibility - the bit is suited for solid hardwood, softwood, plywood, MDF, chipboard, laminates, melamine, and plastic, making it a practical all-around profiling tool for diverse shop workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this bit be used in a handheld router, or is a router table required?
CMT specifies that roundover bits with a radius from 1" to 1 1/2" are to be used only on a router table. Because of the large 2 1/2" cutting diameter, this bit should not be used freehand with a handheld router.
What shank size does this bit require, and will it fit my router?
This bit has a 1/2" shank diameter. You will need a router collet that accepts 1/2" shanks. Most router tables and mid-to-large handheld routers include a 1/2" collet or accept a 1/2" collet as a standard option.
Is there anything important to know when reassembling the bearing after cleaning?
Yes. The black bearing washer must be kept right-side-up to correspond with the bearing rotation. Improper reassembly can cause the bit to unscrew during operation. Always verify the washer orientation before reinstalling and running the bit.
What materials can this roundover bit cut?
This bit is suitable for use on solid hardwood, softwood, plywood, MDF, chipboard, laminates, melamine, and plastic. The carbide-tipped cutting edges are designed to handle both natural wood species and engineered panel products.
